My creative direction for this album was deeply informed by the work of Jeanne Macdonald Henry, the Jamaican-Canadian artist whose painting The Jamaican Madonna has long resonated within Jamaican cultural memory.

Growing up with this piece in my childhood home, I would often lose myself in its quiet power, captivated by its striking use of form and contrast. When Samory and his team first approached me with the concept of featuring his son on the album cover, I was immediately reminded of Henry’s work and the profound sense of cultural nostalgia it evoked.

By drawing upon her high-contrast aesthetic—white garments set against a white background, illuminated by the richness of dark skin—I sought to create an image that functions both as an homage to a cornerstone of Jamaican art and as a contemporary continuation of its visual language.
